6 Ways to Celebrate Shark Week at the Jersey Shore

It’s Shark Week - an annual celebration on Discovery Channel which features, you guessed it, a whole week of shark-based programming. The first Shark Week premiered July 17, 1988, and it’s now in its 27th year pulling in the highest ratings in its history.

Numerous videos have been shared in recent months documenting shark sightings in the area but truth be told, our fearful obsession with sharks dates as far back as the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. The novel (and later film) Jaws was loosely based on these events and we’ve been enamored ever since. We all have a story to tell about first time we saw Jaws on the big screen and can you even imagine how we would survive a Sharknado?

So without further ado, we bring you our list of things to do at the Jersey Shore in honor of Shark Week:

#1 TOUCH A SHARK
Get up close and personal with sharks at the Atlantic City Aquarium’s Tropical Shark Touch Tank - http://www.acaquarium.com/

#2 CATCH A SHARK
Fishing in New Jersey for sharks is a blast for the whole family and fall is a great time to plan a NJ Canyons fishing trip for a great run of Mako Sharks. http://www.overundercharters.com/?page=njsharkcharters

#3 GO TO SHARK PARK
Brigantine Shark Park at 26th Street & Brigantine Avenue is a community-built playground that is a kid’s dream come true.

#4 RIDE A SHARK
Bigger kids need more of a thrill and we recommend they ride the Great White at Morey’s Adventure Pier in Wildwood. Plunge 105 feet and reach top speeds of 50 MPH on this classic out-and-back wooden coaster. https://www.moreyspiers.com/play/adventure-pier/ride/the-great-white

#5 SHARK GOLF
This 19 hole miniature golf theme park features a replica of Ocean City's historic shipwreck "The Sindia", and a fishing village proudly displaying a great white shark. http://oceancityfun.com/golf/

#6 EAT A SHARK
Turn the tables on 'em at the aptly named Mako’s American Grille located in Sea Isle City. We recommend the blackened mako with mango chutney.
