Galloway Township is governed under a Manager-Council , which consists of seven Township Council members who are elected at-large to four-year staggered terms. Elections are held every two years. Members of the Council vote one of their members to the position of mayor and one to deputy mayor. The 2nd Congressional District and 9th state legislative district serve Galloway Township.

There are various parks and playgrounds to serve the community including Patriot Lake which has walking trails, a fishing pier, and gardens. The township offers soccer clubs, rugby, lacrosse, football, and baseball to children. The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge protects ecosystems for migrating birds and is headquartered in Galloway. Renault Winery, the oldest winery in the state, is located in Egg Harbor City. It first opened in 1870 and was a large champagne producer for a number of years. Today the winery is a resort with an 18-hole golf course, two restaurants, and a hotel. The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey (or Stockton State as the locals call it) is in the Pomona section of the township and was founded in 1969. Nearly 8,500 undergraduate and graduate students attend classes at Stockton, which offers degrees in various studies.

Native peoples lived in Galloway Township for many centuries before the Europeans arrived. Galloway was the setting for the Battle of Chestnut Neck during the American Revolution on October 6, 1778. In 2011, Hurricane Irene made landfall in Galloway Township.

The population in Galloway increased from 31,000 people in 2000 to more than 37,000 in 2010. People like it here because many have an easy commute to nearby Atlantic City or inland for their jobs. Yet, the shore towns are close by so that summer activities are abundant.
