The town's Promenade, located parallel to the ocean, is a 1.5 mile concrete walkway with shops and places to grab a bite to eat. For more upscale places to eat, there are a number of restaurants. Busch's, located on Anna Phillips Lane, has been a constant in Sea Isle since 1882, and is known for its she-crab soup and deviled crab platter. Braca Café on JFK Boulevard offers Italian fare. For those who really want quality seafood, Carmen’s Restaurant is known for its fresh-from-the-sea specialties like crabs, fried shrimp, crab cakes, and Jersey flounder. Carmen's is definitely serving whatever the local caught this morning. These are just a few of the dining establishments tucked away in Sea Isle City. The nightlife is what makes Sea Isle City fun. There are plenty of bars and nightclubs in town. Kix, LaCosta, the Ocean Drive, and Shenanigans are among the places that host live entertainment, DJs, and drink specials for those looking for a cold one when they come off the beach or an evening out with friends for appetizers and martinis. For family friendly entertainment, there are arcades, miniature golfing, ice cream shops, pizza places, and fishing spots. Throughout the summer months, events are held at Excursion Park on JFK Boulevard and Pleasure Avenue. These activities include weekly movies at dusk, a farmer's market, and guided beachcombing. Other summertime events that are held yearly include Skimmer Weekend, Phillies Home Run Derby, paddleboard races, and the Island Run 10 mile race. Sea Isle City continues the festivities throughout the year to attract tourists and bring the residents together. The 2010 Census reported that more than 2,000 people live in Sea Isle City, and there are 646 families here. The population of the town does swell in June but the crowds leave once Labor Day sets in. Sea Isle City is part of the 2nd Congressional District and 1st state legislative district. The town, which is part of Cape May County, is governed by a mayor and five-member city council. All students from Sea Isle City attend classes in the Ocean City School District. Declining enrollment closed Sea Isle City's last public school in 2012.The town's bathing beaches draw in the sun worshippers, but for those with a little more daredevil in the soul, there are specified areas for kayaking, rafting, kiteboarding, surfing, and volleyball. Alcoholic beverages and dogs are not permitted on the beaches. Anyone who is 12 years of age or older must wear a purchased beach tag. The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol protects visitors and residents on the beaches. Sea Isle City does enjoy a two-tiered approach. It caters to families with young children but also markets itself to those who like the nightlife and after-beach activities. People are drawn to the town because unlike some of the other Jersey Shore spots, there's no need to drop a windfall every night on a boardwalk or amusements. A simple ice cream cone after flying a kite on the beach and listening to music in the evening at the outdoor Band Shell are all that is needed to end the perfect summer day.
